Vertigo

Vertigo Treatments
for Patients Across Greenwich, Stamford, CT and Westchester, NY

Vertigo is characterized by the feeling and sensation of dizziness. It’s often described as a sensation where you feel like the room you’re in is spinning. You may feel lightheaded and even lose your balance. Not only is this terribly uncomfortable, but it can be a major debilitating factor in your life. At Greenwich Ear, Nose and Throat, we can help treat your vertigo and discover what is going to bring you much needed relief.

Causes of Vertigo

This is usually caused by having problems within your brain or inner ear. The most common type of vertigo results from having benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This results in a false sense of a spinning movement. Other causes of vertigo are Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis and, less often, conditions such as a head or neck injury, migraines or certain medications that can cause ear damage. Determining the cause of your vertigo is an important step in your future treatment. We’ll be able to develop a care plan to deal with the cause of your vertigo and help you better manage your symptoms.

Diagnosing Vertigo

How we diagnose vertigo depends on what is causing the symptoms. Generally, we look at your medical history and take a physical exam to see if we can pinpoint why this is happening. Depending on your case, we may need to do a CT scan, blood tests, an MRI and/or an ECG test.
